A delicious kunafa topped with a sweet syrup and served with vanilla ice cream. This dessert features a crispy kataifi dough base layered with mozzarella cheese and crushed pistachios.
In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar on high heat. Allow it to come to a boil.
Once it boils, lower the heat to medium and allow it to simmer for 10 minutes, then turn off the heat.
In a mixing bowl, add the kataifi dough and melted butter; mix until well combined.
Grease the baking pan with melted butter and transfer half of the kataifi dough to the pan, spreading and leveling the layer.
Add the cheese, spreading evenly. You can either add slices of mozzarella or shred it.
Add the remaining dough and level it, pressing lightly.
Transfer the baking pan to the center rack in your oven and bake for 45-60 minutes until the kunafa is a deep golden-brown color.
Once ready, remove the pastry from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over it.
Top with vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.
Finally, top the pastry with ground pistachios, slice, and serve while still warm.
